George B. Desdunes
August 24, 1991 - February 25, 2011
George was raised and educated in Brooklyn, NY. He was the beloved son of Marie André and a member of Queen of All Saints Church. Loved by his friends and family here and at home, George was a sophomore at Cornell University studying to become a neurosurgeon. He loved soccer, spending time with his extended family, and meeting new people.
George participated in Greek Life as member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Early in the morning of February 25th, in a SAE hazing ritual tradition, he was kidnapped, blindfolded, bound with zip ties, and forced to drink copious amounts of alcohol. He was left to die on a couch.
Sigma Alpha Epsilon faced a $25 million lawsuit. It was settled out of court. Four SAE pledges were charged with misdemeanor hazing and unlawfully dealing with a child. They were aquitted.
After a brief temporary suspension, SAE's Cornell chapter was reinstated in 2022. They returned to the West Campus house Geoge died in at 122 McGraw Place.
On the anniversary of his death, we honor George's legacy, as tribute to a wonderful young man whose senseless death must be remembered.
